Helio Castroneves did not begin climbing fences at Indy, he started when he won on road and street courses while driving in CART. This vignette shows Helio celebrating at one of those road courses.

The figure in this vignette is made from parts from two driver figures – most parts are from a standing figure but also the clenched fist from a sitting figure was used. The base figure had all its joints (including waste) cut and body parts repositioned. Putty was used to fill in the gaps. The helmet graphics have been simplified because of my inability to properly copy the graphics. A drink tube was added to the helmet. Decals for helmet logos and uniform patches came from many sources.

The fence is made from wood (painted to represent concrete), aluminum tubing, and screen mesh. Very small gauge wire and some metal ship modeling parts were used to represent the clamps that hold the fencing to the support poles. Wire was also used for the cables running along the fencing. Model railroad scenery supplies were used for the gravel and grass.

Bike and rider painted with Gunze Sangyo acrylic paints. (Note: I made the size of the colored rectangles on the FIA curbing too small.)

“Indian Summer” is an HO scale diorama of two people who rode an Indian motorcycle with sidecar into the country for a picnic. The motorcycle (which consists of 5 white metal parts) is from JL Innovative Design and the tree (again, white metal) is from Woodland Scenics. The figure are from Branchline Trains and have been cleaned-up and repainted. The bottle, can, and glass were cut from a 1/35th scale bottle.

“DC-3 Trash” was built for a local club challenge to build a Academy/Minicraft DC-3 kit into anything other than a DC-3. This one has been converted into mobile home. The pickup and ’57 Chevy on blocks are reworked Racing Champions diecasts. The people and dog are N-scale model railroad figures. Various details to look for include window A/C units, propane tank, junk in bushes (old parts from the plane), sheets on the clothes line, a busted screen door, bear cans in the truck bed, and a man drinking beer while wearing only underpants. You can see this model in the 1940 Air Terminal Museum at Hobby Airport in Houston, Texas.
