This is a model of Dan Gurney’s last Trans-Am racer, as he retired from racing in 1970. Kit is built box stock except for the addition of a Tech inspection sticker on the right headlight cover, which is from Microsport Engineering decal sheet. Body color is Royal Blue Metallic from MCW.

Helio Castroneves did not begin climbing fences at Indy, he started when he won on road and street courses while driving in CART. This vignette shows Helio celebrating at one of those road courses.

The figure in this vignette is made from parts from two driver figures – most parts are from a standing figure but also the clenched fist from a sitting figure was used. The base figure had all its joints (including waste) cut and body parts repositioned. Putty was used to fill in the gaps. The helmet graphics have been simplified because of my inability to properly copy the graphics. A drink tube was added to the helmet. Decals for helmet logos and uniform patches came from many sources.

The fence is made from wood (painted to represent concrete), aluminum tubing, and screen mesh. Very small gauge wire and some metal ship modeling parts were used to represent the clamps that hold the fencing to the support poles. Wire was also used for the cables running along the fencing. Model railroad scenery supplies were used for the gravel and grass.

The actual name of this kit is Belldandy Speed Queen. It is a garage kit of a character called Belldandy from the Japanese anime “Ah! My Goddess”. When I first came across the kit, I thought of race car driver Danica Patrick, who was racing in the CART Toyota Atlantics series at the time. I had a friend of mine, Earl Ma, make me a set of Alps-printed decals to match the logos on her uniform and helmet. Hence, the name Belldanica.

This March was driven by Chris Amon in the Can-Am during 1970. The nose of the car is very similar to that of the March 701 F1 racer. Unlike most STP sponsored cars, the factory Marches (in Can-Am or F1) were not painted day-glo red. I used Tamiya Italian Red.

This is the normally aspirated Porsche 917/10 that Jo Siffert drove during the 1971 Can-Am season. The day-glo paint is called Rocket Red.

The Reaper figure “Ellen Stone, Cowgirl” is based on the Sharon Stone character from the movie “The Quick and the Dead”. The fence is scratch built out of balsa wood. The tree is lichen and model railroading supplies were used for the ground cover and tumble weeds.
